NEC, Birmingham, UK
Birmingham's International Convention Centre is located in Birmingham, UK. It is situated near the junction of the M6 motorway and is one of the leading venues for large-scale events in the UK. As Europe's leading exhibition and event center, NEC offers flexible spaces. With an indoor area covering 182,000 square meters, 20 interconnected halls, 34 professional conference suites, and a stadium that can accommodate 15,643 spectators, it also has 160 acres of outdoor space and 75 acres of open-air woodland. NEC is the largest and best exhibition venue in the UK and the seventh largest exhibition center in Europe.
The design of Birmingham's International Convention Centre was built by the partnership of Percy Thomas, Landau Howard Morley. The construction began in 1986 under the supervision of Jacques Delors, which took 4 years and 5 months with the help of over 1,200 workers. The building used more than 60,000 cubic meters of concrete. The building was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in June 1991, funded by a €49.7 million grant from the European Council, with a total construction cost of €200 million.
Birmingham's National Exhibition Center is one of the busiest exhibition centers in Europe, hosting over 180 exhibitions annually. The center has 21 exhibition halls covering 200,000 square meters. Not only is it renowned for hosting large international exhibitions, but it also provides support for smaller, specialized exhibitions. Despite being further away from the city center, it boasts a unique and convenient transportation environment, making it the only exhibition center in Europe that is simultaneously close to an international airport and a railway station.
